To help teachers more effectively cultivate students’ social-emotional learning (SEL) skills, Luya International School held two consecutive SEL teacher development workshops on October 3 and October 17. Centered on the themes of self-awareness and goal setting, the program guided teachers to revisit the school’s educational mission and vision through an SEL perspective and to develop practical strategies for classroom implementation.
The principal emphasized that the school years are a crucial period for shaping students’ learning attitudes and personal growth. Teachers are not only transmitters of knowledge but also mentors who guide students in understanding themselves and building confidence. Through systematic professional development, the school aims to empower teachers to provide the most meaningful and impactful education for every student.
During the workshops, teachers collaboratively revisited the school’s vision and mission, discussed the creation of an “SEL Student Profile,” and identified concrete indicators of student growth along with teachers’ professional commitments. The outcomes of these sessions led to the development of a 12-week SEL curriculum that integrates core competencies such as self-awareness, emotional regulation, relationship building, and responsible decision-making into academic subjects and everyday learning.
Luya International School hopes that SEL will become more than just a classroom activity—it will become an integral part of the school culture. Moving forward, the school will continue to promote teacher professional growth and further embed SEL into its curriculum, nurturing students who are confident, empathetic, and self-motivated citizens with a strong sense of social responsibility.
