INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE
About the IB
Starting from inquiry and understanding, building a connected international learning journey.
WHAT IS IB
What is the IB?
The International Baccalaureate (IB) offers educational programmes that emphasize inquiry, conceptual understanding, international-mindedness, and whole-person development. IB learning encourages students not only to remember knowledge, but to ask questions, bring different perspectives together, and understand and apply what they learn in real contexts.
At LUYA International High School, the IB is an important framework connecting academic learning, personal growth, and global perspectives. We value active participation, research skills, communication and collaboration, and a sense of responsibility for oneself and the world.

IB MYP
Middle Years Programme (MYP)
The MYP emphasizes conceptual connections across disciplines, local and global contexts, and inquiry, action, and reflection. Through language, mathematics, sciences, individuals and societies, arts, design, and physical and health education, students practise asking questions, investigating, analysing, and expressing their understanding.
IB DP
Diploma Programme (DP)
The DP centres on academic learning with depth and breadth, combining subject study with the core elements of Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), helping students develop research, time-management, and reflective skills.
Authorization
LUYA International High School is authorized to offer the IB MYP and DP. The MYP was authorized on 21 October 2026.
APPROACHES TO LEARNING
What Skills Does the IB Value?
Inquiry and Critical Thinking
Starting from curiosity and questions, students look for evidence, compare viewpoints, and form judgements.
Communication and Collaboration
Expressing ideas clearly, listening to others, and solving problems together as a team.
Research and Self-Management
Setting learning goals, planning progress, evaluating information, and reflecting.
International-Mindedness and Responsibility
Understanding different cultures and global issues, and practising respect and care in daily life.
MYP & DP
MYP and DP: What Is the Difference?
The MYP focuses on approaches to learning, interdisciplinary understanding, and gradually developing independence during the middle years. The DP asks students to study different subjects in greater depth and to complete the research and reflection tasks of the core.
They are programmes for different stages. Completing the MYP does not automatically lead to admission to the DP or to an IB Diploma.
FAQ
Questions from Families
My child is still developing their English. Can they learn in an IB programme?
IB learning develops language and thinking together. Language support, grouping, and course arrangements follow the school’s current teaching plan and admission assessment; please contact the admissions team for details.
Is the IB only for students planning to study abroad?
The inquiry, research, communication, and independent-learning skills developed in the IB can support many different pathways. University recognition, subject choices, and entry requirements differ in Taiwan and overseas and should be checked individually.
What are the core elements of the DP?
The DP includes subject study and three core elements: TOK, the EE, and CAS. Specific subjects and combinations depend on the school’s approved curriculum, IB regulations, and the courses offered each year.
Where can I find the latest curriculum information?
Please read the MYP and DP pages, the school’s latest announcements, or contact the school.
