As the new academic year begins, LUYA International School implemented the “Thrive Together” Back-to-School Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Program from August 25 to August 27. Through a variety of engaging activities and student work packets, the program supports middle and high school students in growing across three core dimensions—awareness, connection, and community—while fostering a school culture rooted in safety, respect, and care.
The Thrive Together curriculum includes M&M Topics (fun icebreaker activities), the Middle School Student Packet (focused on self-discovery and peer interaction), and the High School Student Packet (emphasizing responsibility, respect, and envisioning future goals). Students were encouraged not only to share personal interests and experiences, but also to practice listening, respect, and conflict resolution through games, discussions, and teamwork.
“We hope our students will not only gain knowledge, but also find a sense of belonging at school and learn how to build genuine connections with others,” Principal Chiang shared. “These activities help students quickly adjust to the new school year, develop confidence, and grow in an environment of respect and care.”
In the classroom, students took part in activities such as the BINGO Friendship Game to get to know their peers, Class Agreements to collaboratively establish classroom expectations, and My Hopes & Dreams for the Future to boldly express their aspirations. These activities are designed not only to strengthen interpersonal relationships, but also to encourage self-reflection and inspire positive learning motivation.
Looking ahead, LUYA International School hopes the “Thrive Together” program will continue to nurture trust and collaboration between teachers and students throughout the school year, ensuring that every student can thrive in a supportive, inclusive, and inspiring community.
