As society continues to evolve rapidly, students’ life experiences and critical thinking skills have become essential foundations for learning and future development. To broaden students’ perspectives and introduce them to global industry trends, LUYA International School hosted a special lecture titled “Be the Person Who Solves Problems” on November 21. The school invited Ms. Lian-Jun Liu, Senior Manager at Siemens, to speak on the importance of cross-disciplinary integration and information literacy.

According to the school, many adolescents today face challenges arising from limited life experiences. This often influences their reactions when encountering unfamiliar situations. Common issues include:

  • Difficulty identifying strategies when facing new problems
  • Dependence on adults and increased anxiety during unexpected challenges
  • A narrow life circle leading to difficulty understanding others’ perspectives
  • Limited participation in diverse activities, resulting in weak self-awareness

These situations highlight the growing need for schools to cultivate students’ critical thinking and broaden their worldviews.

During the lecture, Ms. Liu introduced Siemens’ work across energy, smart manufacturing, and infrastructure. Through real-world examples, she demonstrated how industries rely on logical reasoning, data analysis, and interdisciplinary cooperation to address global challenges.

She emphasized:

“Critical thinking is not just an academic skill — it is the foundation for making sense of a complex world.”

Students gained insights into the necessity of cross-domain collaboration and the importance of approaching challenges with open-minded thinking.

Principal Hui-Chen Chiang reminded students of the essential role English plays in international communication, stating:

“Language is a powerful bridge to the wider world, enabling students to access deeper, broader knowledge.”

She encouraged students to combine language skills with logical thinking to expand their horizons.

Through this lecture, students gained a clearer understanding of critical thinking and how it connects with real-life experience and future aspirations. LUYA International School will continue partnering with industry leaders to design meaningful, interdisciplinary learning opportunities that help students develop broad perspectives, strong reasoning abilities, and the confidence to face future challenges.
