To help students cultivate strong reading and learning habits, LUYA International High School has introduced the concept of Habitual Learning into its Reading Leap Program. This initiative adopts a continuous and systematic approach, guiding students to build momentum for learning in their daily lives.
The program features two core tasks. The first is the Weekly Reading Task, where students are required to complete a book—fiction or non-fiction—while compiling new vocabulary and writing an English summary. This helps enhance both language proficiency and reading comprehension.
The second is the Daily News Task, in which students take notes on current news articles and build vocabulary lists, linking international affairs with language learning.
Beyond reading and news, the school has extended Habitual Learning into all subject areas. In Chinese, English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science, students are encouraged to use mind-mapping tools during exams and assignments. By “chunking, organizing, and connecting” knowledge, then justifying their reasoning, students strengthen systematic thinking and knowledge management skills.
LUYA International High School emphasizes that the purpose of Habitual Learning is not only to enhance knowledge acquisition but also to cultivate habits that, over time, empower students to meet the challenges of the future.
